About Ralph Lorenz:

Thanks for visiting ForestLakesQigong.com! I’m excited to share the benefits of Qigong and Tai Chi, and I’d like to give you a little background on how I came to these arts.

By day I’m a university arts administrator and music professor, and for many years I have also been an avid practitioner of Chinese martial arts and health systems. My studies in the martial arts go back to my teens, when my parents enrolled me in a Judo class at the local YMCA. I also had some studies in Karate but found that I was especially drawn to Chinese martial arts. In the mid 1980s I had the fortune of being introduced to the Chinese martial arts through Master Chunfu Lin (not to be confused with Master Chunyi Lin), from whom I studied Yang Style Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and Eight-Steps Praying Mantis Kung Fu. After some time away for grad school and working to attain tenure as a music theory professor, I enrolled my son Gabe in the kids class at a local Kung Fu school–it looked like so much fun that soon I was back training again, eventually earning instructor status in Tien Shan Pai Kung Fu and Yang Style Taijiquan under Sifu Larry Vincent. As I’ve gotten older I’ve become more and more interested in the health aspects of Tai Chi, and this led very naturally to the study of qigong. A few years back I attended a national qigong conference, where Master Chunyi Lin was the keynote speaker, and that’s how my journey in Spring Forest Qigong really took off. These days I’m practicing a lot of Qigong and Tai Chi. Incidentally, in my academic work in music theory, much of my recent research has focused on the healing aspects of music, and I look forward to continued studies in the integration of Qigong, Tai Chi, and music/sound healing.

My certifications include:

  • Certified Trainer and Certified Practice Group Leader, Spring Forest Qigong
  • Instructor in Yang Style Taijiquan and Tien Shan Pai Kung Fu (second degree black sash), under Sifu Larry Vincent
  • Instructor in Temple Style Taijiquan, under Master Waysun Liao and his senior instructor, Master Bob Krzemienski, Taichi Tao Center
  • Ph.D. in Music Theory, Indiana University
  • Additional studies in Bagua Zhang
  • Member, National Qigong Association (NQA)

I am currently offering classes in qigong in the Syracuse area; these classes focus exclusively on the system of Spring Forest Qigong. I’ve completed  certified training for Level 1 (Health), Level 2 (Healing), Level 3 (Advanced Healing & Energy Development), and Level 4 (Higher Vibration). I plan to also offer Tai Chi classes soon (please let me know if you’re interested).

About Spring Forest Qigong:

Spring Forest Qigong is a simple and effective system of qigong, founded by Master Chunyi Lin. I have found it to be a wonderful system for promoting health and wellness, and I embrace fully its quest for “A healer in every home and a world without pain and suffering.” Here is the official vision and mission statement of Spring Forest Qigong:

“Spring Forest Qigong provides people throughout the world with the knowledge and tools to experience and share the beautiful and powerful fact that each one of us is born a healer with the natural ability to help ourselves to heal and to help others to heal, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.” More information about Spring Forest Qigong can be found at the official website: https://www.springforestqigong.com.
