A Vaccine Protocol: Minimizing the After-Effects

Have you heard of people experiencing flu-like symptoms after taking their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine? I recently took my second dose of Moderna, and I wasn’t looking forward to the possible after-effects. Thankfully, the symptoms I experienced ended up being very minimal. There are two actions I took to minimize the symptoms, and perhaps they will be helpful for others. One of those action steps involves Qigong, which is why I’m bringing up the topic here.

I’ll be the first to say that this is not based on a scientific study–the approach worked for me, and it may or may not work for others.

The first step was a tip from my friend and chiropractor: drink 32 ounces of Gatorade before getting your second dose of the vaccine. I already knew that it was good to stay hydrated, but this tip added a new angle to staying hydrated.

The second step was to perform a Qigong exercise: specifically, the Small Universe Meditation as practiced in Spring Forest Qigong. This is a breathing and meditation exercise in which you visualize your qi flow moving along the primary front and back energy channels. In other practices this is known as the Microcosmic Orbit. In Spring Forest Qigong, we have twelve primary energy points that we incorporate in the qi flow, and it’s a great way to balance the energy in your body and activate all of the energy channels. I practiced this exercise before and after getting the vaccine, as well as first thing the next morning. I do feel that this meditation is great for situations like this. For more information about the Small Universe Meditation, go here, or come to our Qigong practice sessions, where we often incorporate this meditation.

As I said, following these two steps really seemed to minimize the after-effects of getting the second dose, and I hope this information can be helpful to others. I’ve heard stories of people being laid up for 24 hours with strong flu symptoms, but in my case, I just experienced some minor aches, and it was nothing distressing at all.
